It’s a conversation I’ve heard many times before; a couple having a heated discussion about what bed linen to buy. It doesn’t matter how old you are, your gender or your sexuality; the chances are if you’ve lived in a relationship you’ve probably had the bed linen conversation/disagreement/full blown argument. One partner wants something practical, the other wants something stylish. One partner wants something deep and rich, while the other wants something that will add a bit of light to the ensuing winter.
Well, this month Melbourne design duo Hunting for George have released their latest collection, The Moody Blues, and it might just be the solution that sees couples everywhere laying their heads to rest absolutely content.
The key pieces in this unassuming collection are the simple geometric Bodhi quilt cover, humble Chubby Checker and the elegant Colonel Mustard, all of which appeal to a slightly more masculine sense of style while still incorporating some lighter shades. Co-founder Lucy Glade-Wright explains how their range aims for gender neutral aesthetic, “We always design for a unisex audience however this season does have a more masculine overtone. Our focus was pulled towards creating an emotive, nostalgic collection that was confident in its simplicity and character.”
The Moody Blues relies heavily on the sullen grey tones that always seem fitting in winter. But what really sets this collection apart, is the inclusion of a golden mustard that adds the usually insatiable lustre that other linen ranges often lack.
A sense of restful warmth is woven through the collection in both colour and material with the combination of pure cotton sateen bed linen and 100% Australian Merino Wool blankets. Co-founder Jo Harris explains the importance of varied textiles in their new collection, “We wanted to experiment with new textures this season. Winter is all about layering, the inclusion of these new elements help to enhance the character of a space.
“The wool blankets and buffalo leather cushion are some of our favourite new additions to the range. These designs are all about luxury and we hope they will be cherished for many years to come.”
